HOW TO BOOK:  Book it like you’d book a class!  NOTE: Due to how popular these workshops are going to be – there is a 24 hour cancellation policy! So book this like you would book a medical appointment and give us lots of notice if you can’t make it!

Here’s the lineup:

Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, 1pm:

SPIN 101:
Whether you are new to spin or have been spinning with us since we opened, this workshop is a good place to revisit bike functionality and your own form on the bike!

Have bad knees? A bad hip? A bad back? What modifications are there? Why does your pubis hurt when you spin?  What the heck does Heather mean when she’s yelling at you to reach your butts back?? Tap the saddle? We will answer all these questions and MORE (so come equipped with your own personal questions!)

NOTE: Not a class, but you will be spinning from time to time so bring your shoes and a water bottle. (and maybe a note pad if you like to take notes)

Workshop led by: Heather
Duration: 45-60 mins

Saturday, February 9th, 2019, 1pm:

With Pilates being the latest addition to our Yoga Barre fitness repertoire, we have a lot of members who are just learning this method for the first time!  So if you are NEW to Pilates or just need a refresher, join us!

Can you do Pilates with a bad back? Why is it so important to have a neutral spine? Whats a pelvic tilt? What’s a roll up and can I do one??  Are some general questions asked about Pilates but we would love to hear ones that you have as well!

NOTE: This one will be in the format of a fundamental beginners class with a lot of time spent on fully explaining alignment in the Pilates method, so bring a yoga mat, a water bottle, and a note pad if you wish to take notes!

Workshop led by: Dona
Duration: 75-90 mins

Saturday, February 16th, 2019, 1pm:

BARRE 101:
One of our studio fitness staples at TYB, Barre classes are a wonderful combination of all things yoga, Pilates and ballet.  Because we do so many different things in a Barre practice this session will take the entire TWO HOURS because there is just so much to cover!

Do your knees hurt in lunges?  Does your back hurt in planks? A curtsy whaa? Pushups are the WORST! Can I still do barre while rehabbing an injury? This workshop will cover all things barre and our goal is to have you feeling comfortable in executing barre exercises in the way that best works for you and your body!  Every body is different and naturally in Barre everyone is going to look a little different but that doesn’t mean what one person is doing is wrong and the other person is right!  So come find out how Barre is suppose to feel for you!

NOTE: Not a class, but just as hard as one as we will be repping and holding a lot of poses!  Bring your mat and water bottle. (note pad too if you wish!)

Workshop led by: Heather
Duration: 90-120 mins

Saturday, February 23rd, 2019, 1pm:

YOGA 101:
Being open in the Charleswood community for almost 3 years now, what I have noticed most about our students is that they are a little shy when it comes to yoga.  Western culture has kind of ruined yoga and its perception of what it is.  You don’t need to be the  contorting yourself on a mountain top with the wind blowing through your hair using the perfect photo filter to ‘do yoga’.  When I tell people I am a yoga instructor the first thing many people say is ‘ohhhh you must be so flexible!’ NOPE. At least not by industry standards!

So this workshop is meant to debunk all those myths. You don’t have to contort yourself.  You don’t have to be ‘flexible’.  You don’t have to wear hot pants or even yoga pants if you don’t want to!  Yoga practice is an AMAZING personal practice and we want to show you all the wonderful things you can take away from a consistent practice!  If you’re still shy about ‘not doing yoga well’ we will go over a lot of the basics so that you have a good foundation and understanding of what yoga is suppose feel like in your body.

NOTE: Not a class, but we will be workshopping a lot of the poses as well as an open forum for discussion and questions.  Bring a yoga mat, water bottle, and a note pad if you wish to take notes!

Workshop led by: Ashley (assisted by Heather)
Duration: 90-120 mins

With the success of our first public barre training and many asking about a fall training, we have set our dates for the fall session:

October 19 – 21 (theory)
October 26 – 28 (theory)
November 9 – 11 (practicum)

Are you a current fitness or yoga instructor and you’d like to add Barre to your fitness teaching repertoire?

Do you want to learn how to become an EXCEPTIONAL Barre Teacher while discovering your own unique bare teaching vibe? Then this course is for YOU.

TYB’s Barre Training is a comprehensive training done over 3 weekends. A whirlwind barre lesson done in a short weekend this is not. You will get the full value of your tuition by diving deep into the world of barre and emerge as an knowledgeable, skilled, and unique instructor.

We won’t give you some handouts and set you loose into the barre teaching world either – you’ll be able to apply your skills, practice teach, receive constructive feedback from senior instructors, and have someone to answer all your barre teaching questions so that you can truly hone your craft and feel like a total barre boss!

Dates: October 19 – 21, October 26 – 28, November 9 – 11 2018.

1. I don’t want to be a teacher, but I LOVE Barre and want to deepen my practice – can I take this training?

Yes!  You can sit in on the lectures and not participate in the actual teaching part of the training if you’d like!  Message Heather for a reduced rate to just sit in on lectures.

2. I’m already a certified Barre instructor – but I’d just like a refresher on some of the concepts and a little bit of inspiration.  Can I take this training?

Yes!  You can also sit in on lectures and partake in the classes.  Contact Heather directly for more info and a reduced rate.

3. I have no other certifications – can I be a barre instructor with this training?

Most studios/gyms/community clubs in Winnipeg require you to have at least a fitness certification or a 200hr Yoga Certification to teach Barre.  Boutique studios with their own brand of barre have their own training that their instructors go through so make sure to contact those studios if that’s where you dream of teaching!  That being said you can always take this training and THEN finish any extra fitness or yoga requirements necessary to qualify to teach at those facilities (each facility has their own set of guidelines)

4. Are there per-requisites to taking this training?

No per-requisites but a background in yoga is helpful. (As our method has yoga fundamentals)  During the training you’ll be required to take at LEAST 15 classes.  8 will be covered in the actual training and you’ll have to fit 7 classes in on your own time.  If you don’t know how Barre feels in your body – it will be really hard to teach it to others which is why taking classes is so important!

5. What is the cost of this training?

The cost is $595.00 (plus applicable taxes) and this includes:

  • 3 weekends of training (approximately 35 hours)
  • A FREE MONTH at TYB (from October 10th – November 10th) so you can take classes
  • 2 co-teaching practice teaching classes with a senior instructor after the training
  • Use of the studio space to do your own practice teaching for your friends/family (speak with Heather to arrange dates/times)
  • Becoming a kick ass and confident barre instructor!

NOTE: REGISTER BY OCTOBER 1st, 2018 and pay only $475.00! (save $120.00!)

6. What are the hours of this training?

Fridays: 7pm – 9:30pm

Saturdays: 9pm – 3pm (60 minute lunch/snack break)

Sundays: 9pm – 3pm (60 minute lunch/snack break)

7. Oh no!  I can’t attend all the weekends!! Can I still finish my training?

It is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that you be in attendance for the entire training.   Certain modules are mandatory (like the anatomy lecture) and cannot be made up.  If you have to miss a part of training you can make up for it by having a one-on-one session with Heather at the cost of $50.00/hour. (so its best that you just clear your calendar!)

8. Sooooo…what exactly will I learn in this training?

We will cover:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Yoga, Pilates, and Ballet Terminology
  • Barre Moves and Alignment Prinicples
  • Dynamic and Effective Teaching Skills
  • How to Sequence a 60 min and 45 min Class Efficiently and Effectively
  • Cueing and Verbal Instructions
  • Finding Your inner Barre Star – How to Discover your Unique Teaching Style
  • MUSIC MATTERS – Picking Songs that Work
  • Modifications for pre/post natal, injuries, beginners
  • Props!
